UK Student Visa: Types, Cost, Processing Time & Requirements in 2025

My UK Student Visa Experience
I applied for a UK Student Visa (Tier 4, now called the Student Route) in 202X, and overall, it was a smooth but nerve-wracking process. Here’s a breakdown of my experience:
1. CAS & Documentation:
After receiving my Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from my university, I made sure I had all my documents ready:
✅ Valid passport
✅ Financial proof (bank statements showing sufficient funds for tuition + living expenses)
✅ TB test results (as required for my country)
✅ ATAS certificate (only for certain courses)
✅ Academic transcripts and English language proof
2. Online Application & Visa Fee:
I filled out the UKVI online application form, paid the visa fee, and also paid the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS), which gives access to the NHS.
3. Biometric Appointment:
I booked a biometric appointment at my nearest visa center. The process was quick—fingerprints, photo, and document submission. Some centers offer priority services for faster processing, but I opted for the standard one.
4. Waiting Time & Decision:
The official timeline was 3 weeks, but I received my decision in X days/weeks. Thankfully, it was approved! I got my 30-day vignette (now replaced with a 90-day vignette due to COVID changes) to enter the UK.
5. Arriving in the UK & BRP Collection:
Once in the Study in UK, I collected my Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) from the designated post office within 10 days. This acts as the official visa document.
Challenges & Tips:
• Financial Proof: Make sure your funds meet UKVI requirements and are in your account for at least 28 days.
• Double-check documents: Even minor errors can lead to delays.
• Apply early: The sooner, the better—especially during peak intake seasons.
Overall, my experience was positive, though the waiting period was stressful! If you’re applying, just be well-prepared, and you’ll be fine.
Hope this helps! Feel free to ask if you have any questions. 😊
