Why We Still Love Our Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring After Years of Using It

Durability
As previously stated, durability was one of our main priorities when selecting our flooring, and it is much more vital to us now that we have a very feisty “teenage” canine and an equally spunky child. Listen, I’m going to be honest with you: in the 1.5 years since we adopted our pups Elvis and Emmet, our house has turned into a cyclone of all-out mayhem, and I’d say our flooring have taken the worst of the damage. Endless fetch sessions, with tiny dog claws skittering across the floor. More spills than I can count. A toddler whacks his plastic, child-sized golf club against every inch of our flooring. Tug of battle between both youngsters. Furniture being pulled and shoved back and forth. And all kinds of other turmoil. If our flooring hadn’t been as robust and durable as it is, I could have lost my mind. When we were looking for flooring, we wanted something that we could live in and on while also being easy to clean. And that is much more crucial to us today. Our floors feature enhanced scratch prevention and are resistant to even the worst stains; they can withstand spills with ease. Seriously.) And, unlike many other types of wood or wood-look flooring, it may be utilized in traditionally moist spaces such as bathrooms and mudrooms. So you understand how difficult this is. Our resilient flooring throughout our entire house still looks brand new after all these years, and I’ve never had to worry about a spill, scrape, or other scary mishap. It’s magical!

Sustainability
Okay, we get that sustainability may not be on your radar when choosing a flooring option for your home, but check this out: Beautifully Responsible® member brands and their resilient flooring products reduce the need to harvest less abundant natural resources by combining abundant natural ingredients (limestone, for example) with synthetic materials (such as vinyl) to create long-lasting, highly durable, nature-inspired designs. Improving manufacturing efficiency means emitting fewer greenhouse gases and having less carbon “embodied” in the product. They are also always looking for new ways to reduce energy, water, and material waste, as well as recycle wasted, factory-made materials back into products. How awesome is that?
Beauty
We’re not entirely immune to the allure of beautiful floors, you know? Looks are normally at the top of any regular homeowner’s list of priorities, and we were no different! Our flooring is simply stunning. It has a very realistic, wood-like appearance and feel, but without the fussiness of wood, which was crucial to us. If you’re unfamiliar with the world of luxury vinyl plank with stiff core (as I was until being introduced to it during our flooring search), don’t be put off by the word “vinyl.” It has gone a long way from the days of vinyl flooring. Even years after we put our resilient flooring, the choices have only improved and become more stunning! Even when I look at these photos of our new bedroom flooring, it still seems almost identical to real wood!

Wellbeing and Indoor Air Quality
Now that Emmet has arrived, I am grateful that we had the foresight to evaluate indoor air quality and the toxicity of the materials used to manufacture flooring goods during our flooring search and chose to prioritize choosing a non-toxic product. It makes us very happy, especially now that we are parents, that our resilient flooring fulfills relevant third-party certification standards for contributing to good indoor air quality and/or being free of harmful compounds such as formaldehyde. Furthermore, resilient flooring is designed with superior wear layers that make cleaning and maintenance simple, eliminating the need for harsh chemicals. Consider how much we all come into contact with our floors on a daily basis. It’s A LOT! And in our situation, we’re not just walking on it; we’re rolling around or crawling on it, together with our dog and baby. And we want to continue our puppy and kids floor play with wild abandon once we are settled into our new bedroom!
Affordability
Though it was not our top priority at first (we knew we’d be investing in our flooring and were prepared for that), as we’ve continued to remodel and add new spaces to our home, we’ve realized that the affordability of the flooring product we use in our home has made our home improvement projects much more approachable and affordable over time. If we were constantly spending large portions of our home improvement project budgets on simply the flooring we needed to match, we would definitely be concerned. Our flooring’s cost has provided us with significant value over time!
